On Saturday, May 5, the Espai Francesca Bonnemaison hosted the XIV edition of the Volunteerism Meeting within the field of Oncology organized every year by the Catalan Federation of Organisations Against Cancer (FECEC).
This annual meeting aims to promote the recognition and the connecting link between all volunteers working in this field in Catalonia. The day is also a token of appreciation to the effort and commitment of the volunteers to improve day by day the quality of life of people with cancer and their families.
This year, the meeting emphasized the volunteers’ cohesion and the feeling of belonging to the entity they collaborate with. The African proverb “If you want to travel fast, walk alone; if you want to travel far, walk together” synthesizes today’s essence. For this reason, this edition has ‘Cohesion: The Strength of Volunteerism’ as a motto.
FECEC’s president Ramon Maria Miralles inaugurated the event at 10 a.m. along with Bernat Valls, General Manager of the Government of Catalonia’s Civic and Community Action and Meritxell Budó, President Delegate of Barcelona Provincial Council’s Department of Social Care.
One of today’s talks was “Volunteering: Ethical and bioethical considerations” by Mr. Sergio Ramos, Philosophy graduate, Master’s Degree in Bioethics, PhD in Philosophy, and professor of Bioethics at the University of Barcelona.
Subsequently, two workshops took place: ‘Body percussion as a tool for social cohesion and emotional experience‘ by Santi Serratosa (body percussionist, musician and music therapist) and ‘Together we can achieve much more’ by Jordi Muñoz (personal recreator, music therapist and trainer of trainers as well as Director and founder of El despertador).
The Vall d’Hebron Hospital Choir closed the XIV Meeting.
